Let me tell you, there is nothing better than a hurricane (or more correctly a tropical system remnant) to make a hydrologist working in the desert go "SQUEEEE!" This is especially true for one who has been working for 15 years in one of the worst droughts on record. We shall just have to wait and see what Odile brings to us in the Desert Southwest. The forecast is for several days of rain, potentially heavy. Once Odile heads out on Friday there is supposedly a low pressure system off the CA coast which will also make its way to the east, bringing with it the chance for more rain. The Climate Prediction Center has so far been correct (thankfully) that the SW US was forecast to be wetter than usual this summer. Hopefully El Nino will also build and we can finally get a nice dumping of snow this winter.
