I went to the county clerks office today to get a copy of the deed to the property. I'm doing some estate planning and need to make sure everything is kosher in the event of my demise. I decided to go to the county building in person since the copy only costs $1, but if you do everything online they tack on an additional $1.50 "service fee." Nope. My nose hooked. I got what I was looking for and told the county person that I had tried to do a search on the property name to see how many previous owners there had been. She said I had to use names instead of places and she quickly pulled up all of the information I could ask for. I had always said that the house was built in either 1985 or 1986. There is a stamp in the concrete outside of the house with the date, but the last digit is a little tough to read. I was out there last weekend cleaning up and decided that the last number was a "6." Correct! The first person bought the house on July 2, 1986. They bought it from the Baer Company which built many homes in the area. The person owned the house for 9 years. He sold it in November of 1995 to the person I bought it from in March of 1999. So there you have it! I am the 3rd person to have owned this house and I have owned it the longest by far.
