I'm typing this up from my new laptop at Al & Dex's. We'll be heading up to FC tomorrow. I left ABQ on Saturday and spent the night at my friend's place in Yuma. I can hardly believe that it has been 17 years since I left. I did a quick drive-by of my old place and was happy to see that one citrus tree that I had planted has survived and is bearing fruit. On Sunday my friend and I headed off into the desert to do a little exploring. At one point I hiked up a small side canyon and sat down on a rock. The silence was deafening. There was no sound at all. I closed my eyes and strained to pick up even the smallest sound. Finally I heard a bird chirp way off in the distance. That sense of solitude is what I miss about the desert. But that 's about the only thing. On the way back into town I raided a lemon grove that had already been harvested, but they left all of the ones way at the bottom or deep inside the tree. I picked around 40 in just a few minutes. Hey. I spend 50 cents a lemon all year. It's me getting something back from the citrus industry.
I left for LA on Monday. There was much beer drinking and watching of "Black Jesus" and "The Mike Tyson Mysteries." Funny shit! On Tuesday Al and I hit the Autrey Museum of the Southwest. It's a great little museum! Today was a chill day. We hit Costco for con supplies and soon it will be time to pack up. Hope to see many of you at the con!
