Doggy Dash is the Animal Humane's big fundraising event for the year. It is a competitive run or a friendly walk with the entry fee benefiting the Humane Asooc. I suited the event last year in an impromptu suit of a cheap dog mask and an old bear suit. Even though it would have been laughed out of a furry convention, people seemed to like it. A picture even appeared in this year's mailing. This year with Zunipup, the people loved it. I suited for a little over 2 hours. I posed for pictures and had a fun time interacting with all of the dogs. I've said this before but it bears repeating. Interacting with dogs is a whole new experience from acting with kids. Fortunately most of the dogs were very well behaved. I almost had my dream come true. I noticed a dog getting right up against my leg. I pulled my paw away just as he started to take a leak. Great. If one dog had marked me I can just imagine what would have happened as a few dozen other dogs would then try to mark their territory.
I did have a precious moment with a little girl right before I called it quits. She was mimicking everything I did. We played peek-a-boo for awhile. She was smiling and laughing. I took a few steps towards her and she ran in back of her mom. No matter how much we coaxed, she wouldn't come over. So I gave up and continued to play our little game. She went back to all smiles and giggles. That was good enough for me.
Here's me with local weatherman Steve Stucker who is a big advocate for animal groups.
