Furry cons and food

This is another post to prove the "stoda principle" that most furry posts are about food or sex. The following thought occurred to me today as I prepared a yummy dinner of fish sticks and tater tots (no joke!).

I have noticed that at each furry con there seems to be favorite local restaurants that a large number of furs like to hit while at the con. This goes beyond the usual pilgrimages to Denny's at AC or FC. These are literally non-scheduled nor advertised events of the con.

Examples: There has been an alt.lifetsyle.furry/Homestead dinner at the Outback Steakhouse on Sunday at AC for at least 3 years. For the past 2 years there has been a group of us that makes a run to Fuddruckers at FC. I have heard of folks making a pilgrimage to Sonic at one of the east coast cons. This year at FC we invaded In-n-Out Burger. I have heard about the famous "Crack Chicken" from the Bay Area Furs, but I have yet to experience it. And the legend of the (in)famous $1200 bill at (Iron Chef) Morimoto's from last year's AC seems to be taking on a life of its own.

What I would like to propose is that a list should be compiled of "dining experiences" for each con. One person would be in charge of "herding cats" and that there would be a "pilgrimage" to said establishment by a large contingency of the furry community donning full furry regalia of collars, ears, tails, fursuits(?!). In a way we would be sending a message to the local community that the furry fandom has economic clout and that we should be welcomed with open It would also build community within the fandom in promoting local "culture" as well as introducing non-natives to the local "hot spots." As another example, I have introduced many a fur to the tasty wonder known as Sadies in ABQ. You just can't find "Mexican" food like that in many places in the U.S.

I am becoming a big advocate of promoting events which are not officially sanctioned by the con, but can become events in themselves just by the shear inertia of the event. I fully realize that there are inherent difficulties in reserving tables to seat 50, but I think that this should be discussed. Once again, they already know us at the Outback at AC. We call ahead well in advance and there is usually not too much difficulty in seating us. If there is a wait, it is a great time to yerf with each other other to get to know one another better. It is also a great time to talk to non-furry folk and tell them what the fandom is all about. Anyway...that's my suggestion. I plan on hitting Morimoto's again this year and will probably try to put something together for Pizzeria Uno at MFF. Maybe we should hit Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach for Califur. Yo! Word!
