Why do I bring this up now? Well, I met another Mr. Salad Bowl Express at Califur. While I was working staff feed I got to listen to an hour + description of alien biology/religion of some fantasy world developed by this fur. My eyes crossed as he went on and on and on about various mating habits and socio-political structures. He also mixed in discussion of "real" science which seems to have all originated from Omni Magazine. I especially liked it when he talked about anthropology while czar_wolfhound was in there helping me. There's nothing like having a graduate student in anthropology roll his eyes and say, "What bullshit!" while you go on and on about all you know about anthropology/archeology.
bearknight has a hysterical post today as he rips into the various groups found in the furry fandom. It's almost as if he read my mind and decided to post about a similar subject. I try to be as understanding and accepting as I can possibly be, but I am finding it harder and harder to deal with such socially inept people as Mr Salad Bowl Express and Mr Fantasyworld. Perhaps these people are very smart. I don't know. If you are so smart why are you still living at home with no money? There is something wrong when you show up at a con with $10 in spending money for the entire weekend and you flip out when someone "steals" $0.75 from you.
As much as I sometimes dislike reality, I resign myself to the fact that I am stuck in this plane of existence. I find other peoples' dream/fantasy worlds extremely boring, especially when they seem to live in it. Perhaps that's why I get upset with a lot of furs that talk endlessly about video games. They are NOT REAL! They are escapes from reality, NOT REALITY! The online world is fun. Chat rooms and MUCK's are fun. BUT THEY SHOULD NOT BE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!!! Use the fandom to enhance your life and make it a fun place to take refuge from the evilness and ugliness that unfortunately make up our reality. Do not use it as an alternate reality. You will eventually find yourself in a world of hurt.
