Albu-FUR-que '05 furmeet report

This past Saturday was the 3rd annual Albu-FUR-que furmeet held at my den. It's my little way of bringing together the furs of New Mexico for a day of geeky goodness. I was extremely happy that the grand total of furs in attendence was 16 which I think is now the largest gathering the state has had. Those of you in SoCal or the Bay Area can stop laughing. To pull together that many furs in this desert wasteland was a major accomplishment. In attendance were myself, my Kitty, mr_silvers, kjorteo, yiffyraptor, edthecabbit, scritchwuff, thipher_84, furrysparkles, ari_foxy, rexar, project122, feralmuse, litnapalm, Nightrider, and Lazywolf.

This year's theme was "food on a stick." I got off to a little rough start with the swiss cheese fondue. I couldn't get it to the right consistency. I don't think too many minded though as bread and veggies were dunked and devoured. The next course came off much better, shish-kabob! I roasted up steak, shrimp, mushrooms, peppers, and tomatoes on the grill. Soon I was left with empty plates. We concluded with a dark chocolate fondue into which fresh pineapple, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, and vanilla wafers were dipped. Kitty and I laughed as it looked like a sharks on a bloody corpse as we set the chocolate down.

With full bellies everyone settled down into little conversations, sketching, computer geekery, gaming, or movie watching. Some other highlights included Feralmuse arriving at the party in her fursuit. She later let Red (Project122) wear the suit. I put on Basalt the Bear and some fursuit "fun" was had. Minds were warped at a screening of "Meet the Feebles." I crashed at 1 a.m. and Kitty had to chase the stragglers out at 2. Ari and Thipher decided to spend the night.

The next morning the 4 of us headed over to Wildlife West for their Bluegrass Festival. I gave everyone a tour of the park before hopping into Abbey and entertaining the crowd. There weren't too many kids, but there was a group of 5-6 that kept me busy. There was a bounce house and I spent quite a bit of time in there with the kids. They loved bouncing around with the big plushie. There were a couple of little ones right on the edge as to whether the big raccoon was somthing fun or scary. They would laugh and wave, but when I tried to approach, they would cry. As soon as I turned away, they wanted to see me again. One little girl went from laughing to crying several times in a minute. Overall, it was a great weekend of furry goodness.

And now......PICS!
