Kitty thought the world had ended yesterday because I didn't update. *lol* I just couldn't think of anything witty to say. I did, however, have an interesting thought while making chili last night (yes, the garden has been producing peppers. Yay!) What would happen if there was some sort of cataclysmic event that completely altered everyone's way of life? It used to be that global nuclear war was the big threat. Now that seems pretty unlikely. Hollywood likes to have aliens do it. What if "War of the Worlds" came to pass (just without Tom Cruise so it wouldn't suck so much.) Maybe a "Dawn of the Dead" or "28 Days Later" scenario. Most likely it will be an "Outbreak" type thing. Some super-germ will develop and sweep across the globe. Disease is a density-dependent factor and with 6+ billion of us on this planet who can travel anywhere on its face within a day, it is a real possibility. Something like that would take time, however. It wouldn't be like an asteroid strike or the Earth falling over on its axis where the effects would be nearly instantaneous and global in scope. The only thing that has come really close was the tsunami last year. That one was for the record books. The number of people effected and the area that was devastated was unprecedented.
So my thought was, "What would happen?" Would there be riots and looting? Would people flee and to where? Would you put your trust in the government or would you strike out on your own? Would it bring out the best in people, or the worst? I just hope we never have to find out. But it sure would be exciting!
