"Fans and Freaks" --- review

Kitty and I got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday. It was a DVD of "Fans and Freaks" courtesy of the_cyber_bear. I had heard about this film at MFM but didn't get a chance to get to the screening. It's a low-budget documentary about the sci-fi/fantasy/comic fandom which includes a segment on furry. The furry stuff was filmed at MFM in either 2000 or 2001. Uncle Kage gives one of the best explanations of the fandom I have yet to hear. Compared to some of the anime fans, furs look downright normal.

The thing I enjoyed about this film the most is that it proves that we are not alone. The entire all-encompassing umbrella of sci-fi/fantasy/anime/comic book/furry share so many similarities. Fanboys are not limited to furry. Costume funk plagues Star Trek fans just as much as fursuiters. And anyone who thinks that only furries are perverted freaks needs a reality check.

I'm proud to be in a fringe element of society. I'm having a whole lot of fun, and that's what it's all about.
