Christmas Specials

Over the weekend Kitty went out and purchased "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at Target. Of all of the Christmas specials I have seen over the past 30 some years this one is nearest and dearest to my heart. I used to make every effort not to miss this show. I would cry if I missed it (Boy did that piss off my college roommates *LOL*) Actually, in college we always got a group together to watch it. We would all get up and dance just like the characters. That show probably influenced my love of jazz as well. The soundtrack was one of the best I have ever heard.

I'm glad Kitty bought it for our collection. I told her that with the concerted effort to get religion removed from Christmas, Ooops! Sorry! from the Holiday Season, the Charlie Brown Xmas would probably be pulled from television due to its overtly Christian message. You can't have Bible quotes on t.v.! So now we have it on DVD and the soundtrack on CD. I am a happy bear and hopefully our kids will enjoy it as much as I did. About the only bad part of the DVD is that it comes with a bonus feature, "It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown." OMG was that BAD! I don't know if it ever aired on t.v., but if it did, they buried it after showing it only once. The copyright date was '97. About the only saving grace was that it had Peppermint Patty in a sheep fursuit.

The ABC Family Channel has been showing some of the old skool Rankin Bass Christmas shows. I shocked myself when I started singing along with a song from "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." I hadn't seen that show in YEARS, and here I was singing along. The show also made me wonder if society had gone so far downhill since it first aired on t.v. There was a song where you were supposed to hop up on Kris Kringle's lap and give him a kiss and he would give you a toy. What sort of mixed messages are we sending kids?!? They are told to be afraid of all strangers and yet here is an innocent "cartoon" essentially telling kids to give a stranger a kiss to get a toy. *facepaws* Poor kids. They'll be all messed up when they get older. They'll probably become furry ;oP

Also, someone on my friends list posted a link to a site where you could buy bear paw mittens. If anyone knows of this site, would you please post the link in a comment. And while I was searching for the mittens I came across this!
