North or South?

Well, it's decision time. Kitty and I will be leaving for FC tomorrow. I have been watching the weather forecast for the past few days and I have been chasing my tail (which is a tough thing for a bear to do!) Here is the situation:

It's 1094 miles from ABQ to San Jose via I-40. I-40 runs through Flagstaff AZ. The forecast is for 5" of snow tonight in Flagstaff. It would be approximately 90 miles of snow driving. Normally the speed limit is 75. With that much snow on the ground, I'm thinking the speed would be down to about 25. So it would take about 3-4 hours to get through.

It's 1316 miles to San Jose via Phoenix. This would eliminate any snow driving, but it would tack on an extra 222 miles or about 3 hours.

I think I have pretty much resolved to take the southern route just as a matter of safety.

So, what do the rest of you think?
