Bad Movies

This has been the week for bad movies. A few days ago Kitty and I watched "The Saddest Music in the World." The only reason we Netflixed it was because of Sissy Boy Slap Party which is one of my favorite clips on teh Interawebs. It's supposed to be from the movie. Well, it turns out that it's just a bonus feature on the dvd. The movie involves a contest held in Canada during the Depression to discover the saddest music in the world. The contest is put on by a beer baroness (played by Isabella Rossellini) who lost her legs to a drunken doctor and who now has a new set of artificial legs made of glass and filled with beer. It reminded me of early David Lynch stuff like "Eraserhead." It was supposed to be a black comedy and I guess it was. What it was, mostly, was just plain weird!

Last night we had bad movie night at a friend's house. I chose "Zardoz" since I had heard about it but never actually saw it. I did happen to see one clip from it on You Tube which is a movie classic (IMHO). Here! See for yourself! The gun is good! The penis is evil!. I'm sure jwoulf gets a little moist at that scene. *lol* Definitely a fucked up movie up there with all of the hippie sci-fi flicks of the early '70's.

This morning we counter-acted the effects of the bad movies with a very good one. Kitty had Netflixed "De-lovely". I thought it was going to be a chick flick about the life of songwriter Cole Porter and his wife. It sort of was, but it hit very close to home for us. It seems that Cole liked the boys quite a bit and his wife was cool with it for the most part. Their relationship seemed very close to the one that Kitty and I have. I guess I should learn how to write show tunes! There was a great performance by Kevin Kline and the old standards were performed in the movie by the likes of Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, and Alanis Morissette.
