It was documentary day for me again on Netflix-on-demand today. Today's film dealt with the growing credit crisis in the U.S. With all that's going on in the financial markets nowadays, it is a very timely subject. I'll once again put on my papabear hat and harp once again on a subject near and dear to me. Whatever you do, please do not fall into the credit card tar pit. I know a lot of you are young and just getting started, but please watch your finances! I read a lot of posts about people getting hammered by late fees or insufficient fund fees. Quite frankly it's YOUR responsibility to be watching out for this stuff. Get away from floating checks so that your deposit will supposedly arrive just as the check you wrote a few days ago clears. I know times are tough for a lot of folks out there, but that just makes making an emergency fund that much more important. Your goal should not be to just squeak by every month. Your goal should be to keep making that balance go up and up. I keep squawking about this subject because I'm also constantly reading in LJ about how you're barely able to make it month to month, but you're putting aside money for a fursuit or making plans for the next con. Please! Get your financial house in order first. It really doesn't take that much time to get yourself squarely on your paws unless you're already in the grips of the credit monster. Make yourself aware of how the system functions and use it to your advantage. You know that I want to see all of you succeed and to live comfortably.
