Gran Torino - review
Kitty, Ari, and I took in a free preview of the new Clint Eastwood movie last night. I think they liked it a lot more than I did. I found it rather cliche'. Clint plays an old curmudgeon living in a changing neighborhood. He be-friends his Vietnamese neighbor who tried to steal his prized auto named in the title. Clint takes on the Asian gang that's giving the family grief. No, it isn't Dirty Harry. Far from it.
While some might say that Clint did a fantastic acting job, I say that he's just playing the same character he did in "Heartbreak Ridge," "Unforgiven," and "Million Dollar Baby." Perhaps the movie would have been better if he played the role as a geriatric Dirty Harry, blowing away gang bangers.
Some of the acting by the other characters was pretty bad. I see that this was the first movie that his Vietnamese protege' has acted in. It really showed in places. At one point a cop uses the line, "Don't worry about these guys. They'll be in jail a long time." Ugh! Horrible dialogue!
So I will give it 2/4 honeypots. I will also give it a "Christmas Story" grade of C+.
