Spring has sprung about 2 hours ago. Yay! My thoughts now drift to gardening and sitting on the patio enjoying coffee on weekend mornings.
We had an awesome furmeet last night. The planets aligned and not only was tenax
back in town on business but some furs from TX were here for a convention and asked if they could meet the locals. We threw together a meet and bingo! 20 people having a great time at Fur Central!
Once again I was pleased at how the furry network can really work when no one is a tard. I was contacted out of the blue a little while ago by some TX fur who was going to be in town. He found me by just Googling "New Mexico" and "furry." I'm always happy to meet new folks so I accepted an invitation to get together. When the furmeet started getting arranged I invited him over. It was then that I had to pause. What the heck was I doing?!? I was inviting a stranger into my house without even thinking twice? Granted there would most likely be a house full of friends, but what if this person was a total social reject?!? My fears were diminished when I found out that not only was he a fursuiter who would be bringing his suit but that he was in town for a leather convention. Both of those things earn a lot of points with me. As it turned out, wielder13
was an awesome person. He and his friend (another suiter) were marvelous guests. They brought lots of tasty food and their suits were a hit. It gave me a lot of hope for the fandom that it still can be a community where people can meet new friends and have a good time. I just wish I had more time to just sit down and talk with them, but I was doing my usual running around being the host. It sounds like they'll be in town at least a few times a year, so there will hopefully be more potential get-togethers.
Oh, and thank you for all of the great comments yesterday. As expected there was a whole range of viewpoints. I think the bottom line is that most folks like a little booze and always in moderation. Even last night I must have downed a six pack, but it just kept a nice little buzz going throughout the entire evening. Besides, I always love to cook with a drink in my paw. It makes me feel like Julia Childs. *lol*
