After we watched the animated shorts at the theater we headed to our local brewpub/soul food restaurant. We had been meaning to try it for some time, and last night proved the perfect opportunity. The chicken and waffles did not disappoint. Neither did the Scottish Ale. We then headed home to watch the Oscars as is our yearly tradition. Earlier that day we had watched "Blue Jasmine" which was up for a few awards. Cate Blanchett won for Best Actress and deservedly so. I guess I would like Woody Allen movies a lot more if I didn't know he was such a bastard of a person with his fucked up relationships. You watch the movie and get into the plot of people cheating on one another or being untruthful, and then you realize that it's basically just him writing about his life. All that aside, I liked the movie. On Saturday we had watched "Nebraska" which was also up for several awards. Too bad it didn't win anything, but it was still a very worthwhile watch. We should be getting "Dallas Buyers Club" in the next day or so. I'm really looking forward to watching that.
It looks like my prediction for Best Animated Short came true. Looking back on my prediction for Best Documentary, I was right in that "20 Feet From Stardom" would probably win since it was the best produced. I also nailed "Woman in #6" as best short documentary. I wasn't sure if "Helium" would win Best Short Film, but I was happy to see that it did. I was also shocked to hear that the Academy was seriously considering getting rid of that category. Hell no! Those are some of the best works of art in terms of cinema! How about getting rid of sound editing. The average Joe doesn't know what the hell that is, so get rid of it.
