Yard Fun

I took care of the wasp problem yesterday using the "Fistful of Dollars" method. For those unfamiliar with the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western classic, there are 2 feuding families and it finally boils over to where one family sets fire to the other family's house and then shoots everyone who flees the burning structure. So I positioned myself a few feet from the bird feeder where the wasps had built their nest. I tapped the feeder with a broom and waited for the angry wasps to fly out. As they exited the feeder they were met with a stream of insecticide. Soon there was no activity. I grabbed the feeder and submerged it in a bucket of water. Game over. I then took great pleasure in crushing the nest under my shoe. I used my best Bond-villain evil laugh.

On a much nicer note I decided to make a pesto with herbs from the garden. It has been less than 2 months since I planted my small herb garden along the upper patio, and the plants have responded very well. My basil plant, which I discovered was actually 3 different basil plants, has been turning into a little bush. The parsley plant has also been growing nicely. I threw the herbs into the food processor along with some pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, garlic, and olive oil and viola'! Toss that into some ravioli and you get a tasty dinner.
