Time Event
Elvis' Shoes
This post is either about (A) Presley's blue suede ones which you shouldn't step on or (B) Costello's red ones which the angels want to wear. Since this post is also about going to a concert and (A) is dead, that sort of narrows things down some. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I snagged tickets to Elvis Costello a few months ago. I thought it would be a treat and an honor to see someone of his caliber who was an early pioneer of punk and new wave. He later expanded into jazz and classical. He is also a Grammy Award winner as well as an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I was just unsure as to what genre of music he would be performing. Finally we read that he would be playing all the songs on his 1982 album "Imperial Bedroom" which I was somewhat familiar with since it contained the "hits" "Almost Blue," "Beyond Belief," and "Man Out of Time." The album was ranked #166 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums." The show was incredible especially since it clocked in at an almost unheard of length of 2.5 hours. We definitely got our money's worth! He was backed up by a piano, bass, drum, and 2 female singers. The pianist was amazing, and I just learned that they have been performing together since the beginning back in 1977. The show ended with a second encore of his signature hits "Every Day I Write the Book," "Pump it Up!" and "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding." It was a rockin' way to end the show. My only "disappointment" was that he didn't perform "Radio Radio," the song that got him banned from "Saturday Night Live" for over 20 years. I'm just so happy to see the artists of my youth at this day and age who have not faded with time, but have just gotten better.
