I doubt that I'll get to see all of the nominees for Best Animated Feature. From all of the buzz I would have thought that "Coco" was a shoe-in to win. I have already posted about seeing "Boss Baby" and thought that the plot was very good, but that there was no way that it would be the winner. We did, however, just see another nominee, "Loving Vincent." I figured it would be the obscure nominee that was thrown in there just to fill up the spots. It may be just that, but I am now considering it to be the dark horse to possibly win. The story revolves around the last days of Vincent van Gough and the questions surrounding his death i.e. murder or suicide. What makes this movie stand out is that it takes animation to a whole new level. It's not just all hand-drawn. It's hand PAINTED! Every frame was done in oil paint. Actors were motion-captured and then each frame was painted. Quite the amazing feat! Throughout the movie they incorporate backgrounds and/or scenes from Van Gough paintings. It was nothing short of stunning. It will all come down to how the Academy is feeling. If they are in a commercial mood (like they have been recently), then "Coco" will probably win. If they want to reward and indie flick, then this should be the hands-down winner.
