We paid a visit to her mom during FC a few weeks ago. She has an avocado tree in her back yard that was dripping with ripe fruit. She had harvested all of the ones on the low branches, but there were great bunches higher up. Both dexter_fox and I took turns climbing the ladder with the branch cutter and a rain of tasty fruit soon began falling. We must have harvested at least 3-4 dozen. Kitty and I took a big box home with us. They were hard as baseballs and many were just as big. When we got home we noticed that the ones her mother had picked earlier were now ripe, and so we began cutting them up and adding them to our nightly salads. OMG! Were they tasty! I also honed my peeling skills in the process.
So now we have a box with about 2 dozen avocados all ripening at the same time, and ripening very quickly! We had given some to the neighbors and they were very appreciative. Even their young daughters (both under 3) liked them. So now it looks like guacamole time!
doG bless teh Interaweb! I typed in "guacamole recipes" and received hundreds of web sites. There are sooooo many variations on a theme. This weekend I shall experiment with several different recipes. I have some New Mexico green chili that I have had sitting in my freezer for over a year. It should add quite a kick to the batch(es) that get it. The last time I used it on burgers, I thought my brother-in-law was going to sweat out every drop of water in his body.
I have recipes with cream cheese. I have recipes with sour cream. I have basic recipes with just avocados, tomatoes, and onion. Other ingredients include garlic, cilantro, cumin, even goat cheese. I shall become the Aluminum Chef (I'm not good enough to be an Iron Chef)! The secret ingredient shall be avocados! "Yomigaeru Aiyan Sheffu!"
