What the Bear is Watching

I check my archives, and it looks like my last post like this was back in December. So here's another milepost that I can look back on in a few years to see what was going on in pop culture.

"The Umbrella Academy" - Netflix - It popped up as either a new release or something that was trending so I decided to give it a watch. It looked like another "X-Men" ripoff, but there was something else there. It was good TV in that it set the hook and I started binge watching. Some of the character development seemed a bit thin, but that just leaves the door open for future seasons.

"Russian Doll" - Netflix - I read a review about the show in the WSJ, and it sounded interesting. It features Natasha Lyonne of "Orange is the New Black" fame who lives her life over and over again. Yes, it will be compared to "Groundhog Day" but the plot goes a little deeper in that she struggles to find out where her life went off the tracks. It was another one of those where binging was easy.

"Big Mouth" - Netflix - When I visited Al and Dex in Jan, this popped up on their "recommended" list. They told me, "Sabot! We tried watching that. It sucked!" It also popped up on my "recommended list" probably because I liked "BoJack Horseman." Last week I decided to watch an episode. I really liked it! It's about the sexual awakening of middle-school kids where their sexual desires are manifested by demons who are usually telling them to "go for it!" I can certainly relate to it! I had some very perverted demons when I was 12-14.

"American Gods" - Starz - The jury is still out on this one. I'm starting to be a fan of Ian McShane whom I also liked in some episodes of "Ray Donovan." This show is quite weird and I'm still trying to figure it out, which I guess is pretty much the whole point. There is some pretty weird shit including vaginal vore. I guess I'm already halfway through the first season, so that would suggest I'm hooked.

And that's just the new stuff. Of course we have been watching "Shameless" which just finished another season. We finished up "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" which ended on a high note before Fonzi put on his water skis. We're still watching "The Walking Dead" and wondering why. It's like a train wreck that we can't turn away from. And the finale of "Game of Thrones" will be on next month! *squee*
