Now I know that flu can be a serious thing to the sick, elderly, or very young. It has killed thousands in the past. This is my naturalist/Darwinist side coming out, but I believe diseases like this are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. This is a culling of the herd type of thing. Disease is a density-dependent factor. The more closely packed in we are, the greater the effect. It's nature's way of telling us that there are too many of us. It keeps things in check. Am I cold and uncaring that so many could die because of this disease and I have a "bring it on" attitude? Nah. I'm just a furry. I believe that man should not consider himself better than the other animals on the planet and that the same rule and laws of nature apply to us. In order for the human species to survive, it has to keep the genetic code strong. Survival of the fittest, baby.
*note* If I die from the bird flu, somebody please re-post this as an awesome example of irony.
