Southern "hospitality"

berin and I just came back from a liquor run *sips Jim Beam and Coke*. We had an interesting experience. We hit the closest liquor store on Winchester. We walked in and had an "Animal House" moment. "Boone! We're the only white people in here!" Not only that, but everything was behind glass! Even the cashiers! I calmly asked for a bottle of Jim Beam and we were served very politely. Berin noticed that the other cashiers were a little taken aback by 2 white boys in the store. We left and proceeded to the next store on the list about 1/2 mile away. The name of this store was Whitehaven, which we snickered at. The name told the truth! We walked in and once again everything was behind glass. This store, however, was manned by several older white gentlemen. We were invited in back of the glass and showed where all of the liquor we inquired about was shelved. We loaded up on a few different liqueures and we were served very promptly, in front of one black customer who was there to get a check cashed. We paid and left. On the way out we were told in a very friendly and happy manner, "You be sure to come on back!" My my my. A little culture shock for this white boy.
