Here I was gonna vent that life sucked and I was all alone, when a realy cool thing happened. I looked out my window at about 5:30 tonight when I was a coyote standing about 20'in back of my fence. I went outside, and it just stood there. So I opened my gate and told my dog Anubis (a lab/collie cross) to "go get 'em!" He jumped the fence and headed in the wrong direction "D'oh!"
Finally he sees the 'yote and chases after it. I'm thinking, "Hmmm. That's odd. They ususally travel in at least pairs!" Just then I see the 2nd 'yote. He's just sauntering up the hill. Soon Anubis reappears and starts heading down the hill. When He's parallel with the 2nd 'yote, I yell "Go get 'em!" He spots the 2nd 'yote and takes off after it. There must be something wrong with it because it doesn't run very fast. Soon Anubis catches it and nips at its heel. The 'yote spins around and puts its chin flat on the ground. I can see that its hackles are raised and can even hear the growling from 100' away. The defense strategy is awesome! It's chin is on the ground thus protecting its vulnerable throat while it is now in a position to pounce and go for the throat of its adversary. It turns and starts to walk aways when Anubis nips at it again. Once again it assumes the position. Finally Anubis walks away and the 'yote heads up the hill to be with its mate. Cool stuff! Of course my stupid cat is up on the fence watching the while thing. The yote is probably thinking how it's going to get than snack when it returns.
