Re-finding Neverland

Last night Kitty and I went to see a stage production of the musical "Peter Pan." Overall it was a pretty good show. To me it had to skate the line between adult theater and a theme most suitable for children. Just like our last experience a few weeks ago where we saw "A Year With Frog and Toad" which was also geared towards kids, the theater was full of little rugrats. And just like last time I was happy to see the youngins' getting exposure to live theater.

What made this production very special for me was that they used actual fursuits in the show! I was wondering how they would handle Nana and the Crocodile. I was overjoyed to see an actor come out on all fours in a big shaggy dog suit! Later in the show the same actor came out on all fours slinking across the stage in a crocodile suit. I WANT ONE! OMG! It was a combination of green spandex for the arms and legs while the head and body were some sort of plastic. Quite realistic! The glowing red eye was a nice touch. Also in the cast were a full-suited lion, a kangaroo (which looked a lot like wildfox34's) and a pretty cool ostrich suit.

So I guess it would be hard for me to give an objective review to the show since I was so enamored with the fursuits. I should also mention that nana popped her top at the end of the show. This was a tough call for me. Obviously the actress should get recognition for her acting ability, but there were also a LOT of kids in the audience. I guess I would have rather had her come out for her bows without the suit.

Now I have "I Won't Grow Up" in my head. I guess I'll have to settle for a different song with the same theme.

Here, have Tom Waits singing "I Don't Want To Grow Up." Note the line, "Makes me wish that I could be a dog." How true!

Here, have the same song covered by the Ramones
