Pre- and Post- Con Suiting

Another wonderful thing about Rocky Mountain FurCon is that it's a relatively easy drive from ABQ. This allows us to tack on a day or 2 onto our itinerary to do a little sightseeing on the way. This year we decided to visit a few of the natural wonders that Colorado has to offer. Last Thursday we stopped off at Great Sand Dunes National Park. I wanted to add another national park to my list of "parks where I have guerrilla fursuited." This makes number 6! I was joined by scritchwuff who just got his first suit a few weeks earlier. The weather was pretty crappy with low clouds and intermittent rain, but it was perfect for fursuiting when it wasn't drizzling. The only bad part about suiting at this park is that in order to actually get out onto the dunes, you have to wade across a small river. It's not deep, but not something easily done in suit. At one of the main access points to the dunes we were pounced by several groups of tourists wanting pics with us. The ranger there was a bit puzzled at our appearance, but he was cool with it.

We then proceeded up to Royal Gorge which is the highest bridge in the world at 1,053' above the Arkansas River. We did the full tourist package which included access to the bridge, an inclined railway ride down to the bottom, and a tram ride across the gorge. I definitely had plans to suit here, but it was getting late. We were all getting pretty tired as well, and the wind was very gusty. I decided to bag it.

After the con we headed down to Colorado Springs to visit the Garden of the Gods which is a city park containing cool rock formations. I hadn't been there in about 20 years, so I was bit surprised by how developed it had now become. Our group was a bit tired and itching to hit the road back home, but I was going to fursuit, damnit! Scritch and I suited up and hit Balanced Rock. There were lots of people there since it was Memorial Day. To get to the rock took a scramble up a sandstone ledge. Normally it would have been a cakewalk, but in suit, it was a major ordeal. We made it up and pics were taken. Going down was a chore, and Scritch thought he was going to die, but we did it! After that it was just a 5-hour drive back to ABQ with a quick stop in Las Vegas (NM!) for dinner.

And yes, once again....PICS!
