Then it was off to the amphitheater where we saw Chris Isaak. I'm not a huge fan of his, but I do own a couple of his early cd's. "Wicked Game" was my theme song while working for the Yakima Indian Nation back in 1990. "Twin Peaks" was big at the time and his music always reminded me of that show. It should! He and David Lynch worked together quite a bit with his songs appearing in "Wild at Heart" and "Blue Velvet" as well as having an acting role in "Twin Peaks:Fire Walk With Me."
The show was pretty darn good. I'd say the place was about 80% full. I was surprised that it was such an older crowd. I could understand lots of folks our age, but there were lots of grandma types as well. It's hard to place a style on his music. He's part rockabilly, part crooner, part straight-ahead rocker. Heck, he even did a Spanish song. He always reminded me of Roy Orbison which I guess makes sense since he said he used to open for Roy. I was impressed that he could still hit those high notes in songs like "Wicked Game." You would think it would get harder after performing for 18 years.
So all-in-all, a most enjoyable evening.
