"Slumdog Millionaire" -review

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this movie. About my only insight was from an interview with the director that I heard on NPR. I was half expecting a Bollywood-style flick with lots of random singing and dancing. That only happened during the closing credits. I was also expecting a love story. It certainly was that, but not in a mushy Hollywood style. The plot is developed through a series of long flashbacks, and it really works well. There are a couple of nice twists and turns which keep things interesting. There is humor and appalling violence. All-in-all it was a very well-made movie. I still need to see a few more on the Best Picture list to make an objective decision as to which movie should win. I'd give it 3 1/2 out of four salmons.
