RCFM Con Report

I'm currently sitting in a hotel in the "suburbs" of Oklahoma City. It was a 5-state day, covering Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. For it being a holiday, the roads weren't too bad.

The con was pretty much exactly what I had expected. It was a small relax-o-con which is exactly my style. I was able to re-connect with some friends in a very unhurried fashion not possible at an AC or FC. We did a lot of stuff outside of the con including the Space Museum and the old Huntsville Depot. If we come back next year there is a train museum a few miles out of town. It would also be possible to combine the con with a trip to the Smokey Mountains. We'll just have to wait and see how things shake out next year.

The hotel itself was probably the best in the fandom. What other con has free breakfast and booze?!? The happy hour that the hotel had was a great place to hang out and chill over a few drinks. I was all over that! About the only downside was that we had to share the hotel with a lot of mundanes, and in my opinion, their behavior was a hell of a lot worse than a bunch of furries.

I probably fursuited more at this con than any in the past few years. It still wasn't a whole heck of a lot, but it felt very comfortable at this con. Many suiters, especially new ones with expensive shiny suits tend to be pretentious pricks. I didn't get that vibe at all at this con. People suited because they wanted to perform not just walk around impressing people. I was even surprised that I could suit as long as I did with the heat and the humidity. THAT was sub-optimal, but I made it work.

So overall it was a good time. Combining a vacation with the con was a major plus. I think we'll be doing a whole lot more of that in the future.
