For a somewhat impromptu, come-as-you-are furmeet, it certainly was a huge success! I think we ended up with around 20 people by the end of the evening. I did a lot of grilling while scritchwuff acted as bartender. He had been talking about this huge mint plant in his yard so I told him to bring a bunch so that we could have mojitos and mint juleps. OMG! Did they both turn out great! I bought a good-quality bourbon just for the event and Scritch brought over a bottle that he had at his den. There were a lot of people in the yard going "Ewwww! Bourbon!" at the start of the evening who were later lined up to get another julep. So with everyone happy with bellies full of whiskey, hot dogs, hamburgers, and watermelon, we all headed to the front of the house for a fireworks display. I have good friends who like to set fire to things, so numerous fountains were set off for probably a good hour. The crazy neighbors across the street were a little more mellow this year, but they did set off a few mortars. All around us people were setting off some high-dollar displays. Once things calmed down we decided to call it a night. All-in-all it was a great way to spend a truly wonderful American holiday.
