Last night I heard a story on the news about a mountain lion. I was busy in the kitchen so I didn't hear any details. This morning they replayed the story. It turns out a young female mountain lion was hit by a car and killed. It had been wandering around the neighborhood and the car hit it before Game and Fish could get there to tranq it. What made my ears perk was that it all happened about a mile from the house! The open area where the cat entered the neighborhood is the same open area where I walk with Mesa every day. In fact my walkies takes me less than a quarter mile from where the cat was found. This certainly makes the walkies more interesting! I had heard that black bear could be using that area as a way from migrating between the Sandia Mountains and the mountains to the west, but not mountain lions. I certainly hope Mesa doesn't get sight of a lion. His Rhodesian heritage might kick in and he would try to take it out like his ancestors did. I'm also saddened that they are building a lot of houses to the west of us which will slowly cut off that east/west migration route.
