Total Eclipse of the Heart

What were you doing at 6 this morning? Me? I was freezing my tail off watching the total eclipse of the Moon. I woke up at my usual time of 5:40 and saw through the window that the Moon was still full and bright. I took my time and got showered and dressed. By the time I had finished I could see that the light was not quite as bright and the Moon itself was sinking below the rim of the mesa. I decided to drive up to the mesa since I didn't feel like walking up and then standing out there in the cold. I even managed to get Kitty out of bed to join me.

The Moon was very low on the horizon when we got to the top. It would be a close call to see which would come first, moonset or totality. In the end they happened right about the same time. According to my astronomical almanac moonset should have happened at 7:06 and totality at 7:31. I think topography must play a big part in it because to me moonset happened at 7:00. *shugs* I ain't no astologist. *lol* I tried photographing it, but moon photography is tough enough as it is. This is probably the best shot I took.
