Another Oscar-nominated movie has been watched. Christopher Plummer is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a dying father who comes out of the closet in his 70's. His performance was wonderful, but the movie falls flat with the romance between his son (Ewan McGregor) and a French chick (Melanie Laurent). If that sub-plot could have been dropped or even cast with a different actress, it probably would have been a 4-out-of-five-star movie instead of a three. Yeah. I hated her performance THAT much. When the movie focused on the father, the story really was engaging. The completely non-linear timeline was also a bit tiring, but it still worked.
