A Fur and His Money...

...soon go separate ways.

I don't mean to piss in the fire where so many furs are dancing around singing "Kumbaya" while basking in the glow of furry love, but can someone explain to me the logic of what just happened concerning Furnando's (sic) in Pittsburgh? So the only connection this guy has to the furry fandom is that he sells a bunch of furs sandwiches during AC. Yet furs come running with $20,000+ to keep him in business?!? My head is imploding with the lack of logic here. I know furs can be really retarded when it comes to jumping on the charity bandwagon such as buying someone a new fursuit because it got ruined/stolen or someone not being able to pay the rent because they spent all of their money at a con or on artwork, but now we're throwing money at someone because for 1 weekend a year they SELL food to furries?!? It's called a business, people! He makes an effort to attract furries to his restaurant SO HE CAN MAKE MONEY! Don't you think that if there was a GLBT convention that he would be flying rainbow flags out in front of his place? He had a damn good marketing scheme. He knew what side his bread was buttered. You attract customers by being nice to them and welcoming them! It's called good business practices. If you walked into a place wearing ears and tails and you were treated like shit, would you go there again or recommend it? No! Obviously Fernando's business model must not have been all that great during the other 51 weekends in the year because he couldn't make a go of it. Did someone want to recreate the ending scene of "It's a Wonderful Life?" Oh thank you, Fernando! I wouldn't have had lunch one day if it wasn't for you! I would have had to walk a whole other block to get something to eat! Seriously. He is probably a really nice guy. I read his bio and it reads like the typical American dream. But I'm just wondering what is going through the minds of furs who are so quick to hit that "donate now" button. What's next? Will furs scour under the bridges around the Convention Center to find a bum who will be named "Honorary Fur of Anthrocon" and be given a complimentary fursuit and a room at the Westin? Why was this call to charity arms not also issued when the Steel City Diner or that other place across from the Westin went under? Why didn't we offer the Adams Mark company $20,000 to keep them from selling the hotel in Philly to Target? (j/k) Don't get me wrong. People can do whatever the hell they want with their money. Someone might find my spending $20 on a bottle of gin a waste, but it just seems that there are so many young furs out there who are just getting started or barely making ends meet for themselves. Certainly there are better ways to spend that money. Perhaps that money buys a greater sense of being a part of the community. *shrugs*
