A Grand Canyon Hike

I really wanted to take a hike into the Canyon on this trip, but I had no intention of doing another down-to-the-river-and-back hike ever again especially in Summer. I wanted something relatively short but a nice workout. I got my answer in the Waldron Trail. The trailhead was in the middle of nowhere, but easily reached in my Pilot. The trail descended 1250' in 2.8 miles. It ended at the Hermit Trail which we then took back up in 1.4 miles. It was then a shuttle bus ride to another trailhead which we took to get back to the vehicle 2.9 miles away.

Outside of a few blisters on my paws, it was a beautiful hike. We didn't see a single soul on the Waldron Trail, and it certainly looked as if few people took that trail. That was exactly what I was looking for! Here are a few pics from the day's adventure.

Me-n-Scruff heading up the Hermit Trail.

The Waldron Trail essentially comes down from the rim at the center of the picture and descends into the Hermit Basin.

View from inside the Hermit Basin. It had a nice park-like atmosphere in places. We also found lots of nice ripe prickly pear fruit.
