Happy Solstice!

I just watched the Sun rise over the ghetto apartments across the street from the office. I'll now spend the next 6 months watching it rise further and further to the north. I tried doing an experiment earlier in the year where I noted the position of the rising Sun on the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. The 2 points should be about 22 degrees apart. It was close, but I realized that the Sandia Mountains as well as buildings would effect the point where the Sun would appear to rise over the horizon. I would try to do it as well with the Summer Solstice except the Sun is already well up in the sky by the time I get to work.

And guess what?!? The world didn't end! *gasp* Boy! That was a shocker! Or perhaps it did end and we're now aboard the giant Space Ark. If anyone has any devout Christian friends, check to see if they are around. Perhaps they got raptured up to Heaven.

I should also mention that I prepared for the end of the world in the best way possible. I had a fantastic dinner with Kitty and scritchwuff at our favorite seafood place. There's nothing like good friends, food, and beer to say goodbye to the world. Since the world is still here, we'll have to go celebrate again very soon. One year from today we depart for Panama!
