I attended a non-furry con over the weekend. I'm definitely not into anime and am almost an "anti-fan" because, quite frankly, I don't get it. I'm not a Nipponphile. I tire quickly of anime-inspired characters. I don't play video games so I don't get a lot of the references. So why did I go? I think the prime reason was an excuse to do a bit of fursuiting since I was told furries would be welcomed. That part was true! I had a good time running around as Nevada, and he was well received. The other reason I went was to support our local geek scene. I fully support crossover from anime and sci-fi into furry and vice versa. It was also interesting to get a glimpse into another fandom to see the similarities and differences in conventions. If there were more suiters it would have felt like any other small furry con. To further support the hypothesis that there is significant fandom crossover, sophie_manx did a brisk business selling tails and ears. I also bought a series of graphic novels from a local artist/author which featured a boy and his talking dog. I'm sure his books would sell just as well at any furry con. So overall it was a fun time. I'm now looking forward to our big comic book convention in June.
