Garden Post - 2013

It seems that every year I make a post about my vegetable garden. Why should this year be any different? I put everything in yesterday. 4 jalapenos, 4 green chile, 4 bell peppers, 4 poblanos, 4 yellow pepper, 7 tomatoes (including 2 cherry), 3 mounds of cucumbers, and 1 and a half rows of green beans. It's pretty much what I have planted for the past few years. I gave up on zucchini this year because I got tired of watching them whither and die thanks to squash bugs. I probably went overboard with the peppers, but now that I know how to pickle them, they don't go to waste.

This is probably the latest I have planted in quite some time. I missed 2 weekends thanks to my Chicago trip, and the weather was unusually cool in April. This was my 1st good opportunity. The soil was pathetically bone dry. It took me watering the bejeebus out of it and it was STILL dry a few inches down. There was so much surface tension on the soil surface that even if I watered like crazy, the water just flowed right off as if it were coated in wax. Updates will follow!
