We hit an official high of 98 yesterday although my thermometer at home read 105. There was no way I was going to take Mesa for his walkies. I did, however, sit outside on the patio and read for awhile. Unfortunately Fling Kitty decided she wanted to sit on my lap. Bleh. Nothing like warm fur on a hot day. I didn't last too long before I took refuge inside. The poor AC unit was trying its best to cool the house below 84 degrees (with the thermostat set to 74). I eventually took Mesa for his walkies around 7 when the thermometer fell below 100. We were treated to what the Weather Service called a "virga bomb." It was essentially the collapse of a dry thunderstorm. So the winds picked up and sand blasted us. The lingering clouds then created a nice insulating blanket which kept some of the heat in overnight. The Weather Service forecaster this morning was wondering is we had hit a record high for a midnight reading. Temps are supposed to be a little hotter today. I guess I can't complain. It IS June after all. I DID survive 6 summers in Yuma. I'm just praying for a nice wet monsoon season which is still 3-4 weeks away.
