I *heart* Warranties!

Just under 3 years ago I upgraded the cooling system at Fur Central from evaporative cooling to central air conditioning. Swamp coolers are very energy efficient, but they're a pain in the ass to maintain and they don't work at all when humidity climbs to the 30% range like now in monsoon season. I spent several thousand dollars on the system, but figured it would add that much value to the house. I won't debate about the water savings since you need more electricity to power a central air system and you need water to generate electricity. *shrugs*

I noticed that the system wasn't working all that great this season. When we were getting into the 100's, the best the system could do was the low 80's. This was not good since the thermostat is set to 74! I know the insulation in the house isn't the greatest, but I should be able to cool the house down to a reasonable level. I decided to call the people who installed the system to see if there was a problem. They came out yesterday and it took them about 5 minutes to diagnose the problem as a leaky valve. The guy said that they probably didn't install the valve correctly so it was their problem. It was still under warranty, so no charge. WOOHOO! They went right to work replacing the valves and recharging the system with coolant. You could instantly feel the air from the heat exchanger going from warm to hot. I did a little dance as I watched the thermometer start to fall. Soon it was approaching that magic number of 74. Comfy Bear is comfy again!
