Today Scruff and I decided on taking a hike into the Canyon. Last year we went about 1/4 of the way down. Today we would attempt to go about 2/3 of the way down. The goal was to at least reach Indian Gardens which is a 9 mile RT hike. If we felt up to it we would go to Plateau Point which would be another 3 mi RT. It was a beautiful day for a hike. Temps were warm but not too extreme. The sky was mostly blue and cloudless until the afternoon. It was just an overall darn nice hike. We got to Indian Gardens and my legs were giving me signals that an extra 3 miles might be a bad idea. We opted to just have a nice leisurely lunch amongst the cottonwood and ash trees. As we started back up my right knee decided to be a little bitch. I was in severe pain most of the way back up. I must have pulled a muscle on the bike ride yesterday. Thank doG Scruff had some aspirin which I downed in a massive doses. We were able to get back to the rim in just under 4 hours. It was nice to prove to myself that I can still do strenuous hikes like this. I am still amazed, however, that I did a rim-river-rim hike in one day just about 14 years ago. Darn you, old age! Here's a pic from near the rim just before we made it up.
