Last night Kitty and I went to the traveling Broadway production of "Wicked." I must say that it was quite the awesome performance! The only song I knew from the show was "Popular" and only because of the wonderful filk version "Popufur" performed at FC several years ago. Many of the cast had actually performed the show on Broadway, so we're talking about top-of-the-line singing and dancing. As I wrote in LJ a few months ago, I splurged on the tickets. We were in the 4th row which added to the awesomeness. I looked up comparable seats on Broadway and they would have run almost $300 each.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the story had a furry subplot. It seems that all animals in Oz were anthro, but there was some evil magic taking over and changing them back into normal animals. (Tragic!) One character was a professor who was a goat (costume was a simple mask, but he also had a tail and hooves). Of course there were the flying monkeys. The Cowardly Lion makes an appearance as a cub puppet and later as just a long tail coming from the stage wings.

I think I have said this before, but I really appreciate the fact that I live in a city that can attract shows like this but we're blue-collar enough that things aren't ridiculously expensive nor impossible to get tickets to. Since we got to the theater early, we picked up tix for the Blue Man Group who will be coming to town in Feb. Once again, it was probably much cheaper than someplace like Vegas.
