It was date night yesterday for Kitty and myself as we went out to dinner and then a Broadway show. I can't remember if I was in high school or college when I developed my love for Mel Brooks comedies. My dad loved "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein" and that love rubbed off on me. I finally discovered "The Producers" when I caught the "Springtime for Hitler" number and instantly fell in love with the movie. It was satirical brilliance! I was happy for Brooks when he then transformed his movie into one of the biggest Broadway shows of all time. Then came the movie based on the musical. It was "Little Shop of Horrors" all over again! I was thrilled that ABQ was included in the traveling production schedule. It was a great performance, but I kept wanting Lane and Broderick as Bialystock and Bloom. The pigeon puppets were a nice touch (but I kept waiting for one to talk like Norn Macdonald).
