It's that time of year again, kiddies! The Oscars were on last night and Kitty and I endured the 3.5 hour Hollywood love fest (which some would probably consider a mutual masturbation fest). Like I have said in previous years, it's sorta "our" thing to watch it together. Chris Rock did an admirable job negotiating the racial minefield by poking fun at both the Hollywood establishment and the protesters who just want everything their way. It certainly seemed that Hollywood went all out to show as many black faces as possible during the show. They even let Morgan Freeman announce the Best Picture winner. So how did my predictions pan out? Not very well at all. I picked "Inside Out" in the Best Animated Feature category but was happily surprised to see "Bear Story" win for Animated Short (Go bears!). That was a major "Fuck you!" to Disney. I picked "Amy" for Best Documentary feature, but was once again pleasantly surprised to see "Girl in the River" win for Short Documentary. Having "Stutterer" win Best Live-Action Short was a total surprise. I guess the other nominees were just too much of downers. The other great surprise of the evening was the person in the bear fursuit who was there as a joke in support of "The Revevant." I was hoping he would jump on stage and rape/maul DiCaprio when he won Best Actor. That makes 2 years in a row for fursuiters at the Oscars! Last year had the Awesome Possum. I also had a schadenfreude moment when they put together this huge, moving musical number with Lady Gaga singing about victims of sexual abuse. The song didn't win. Instead Sam Smith won for his James Bond song. Then he made an ass of himself saying he was the first openly gay person to win an Oscar. Yeaahhhhh.
