A couple of years ago I wanted to try my paw at cooking a whole chicken. I do it with turkey every Thanksgiving, why not make it a regular thing with chicken? The one downside is that grocery stores usually don't have a lot of whole chickens. It's all pieces and parts. Occasionally there will be a sale where you can get a whole chicken for less than $1/lb. I did this a few times and it turned out quite nicely. Then Kitty found a recipe where you simply throw a chicken into a crock pot and let it stew for several hours. This turned out wonderfully! You simply rub the chicken with a mix of salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, and cayenne and throw it in the crock pot for 6-8 hours. It marinates in its own juices. And it comes out fall-off-the-bone tender. It's another blow to those people who say "But I can't cook!" And it's cheaper than picking up a ready-made rotisserie chicken (except maybe if you get one from Costco).
