After the con I worked on getting gigs on my own. It seemed like I had non-stop gigs every weekend afterwards. I was really in fursuiting heaven. I had the whole untapped market of New Mexico to exploit. I just had to overcome my fear of asking people if I could suit for them. The more gigs I got, the more confident I became. When people ask how I get so many gigs, I just tell them "chutzpah."
I'm still working on the zoo. It's been a pretty hard nut to crack. I was disheartened to hear that swift_fox was shot down to have a group suit at the Pittsburgh Zoo. I know the Rio Grande Zoo itself doesn't want me, but I had a positive response from the zoological society. I just haven't received the clear green light as of yet. Like a pit bull, I will hang on until I get a definite answer.
Currently I am in the enviable position in that next weekend I don't have a gig lined up, I have 3! It never rains. It pours. So I somehow have to see how I can work the Rio Grande Nature Center, Wildlife West, and the Humane Association's Adoptathon. I am happy that tenax has his fursuit. I am doing my best to get him involved in these gigs as well. My dream of the "Albufurque" performance group is becoming more of a reality. It won't be a "Critters by the Bay," but it will be pretty cool for the area. My next nut to crack will be the Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team. They had a "mascot night" last weekend. It would have been great to have been able to perform for that. Like I said in a previous post, I outperformed Orbit, the Isotope's mascot at my last gig where he was also present.
And this weekend I will be performing with tenax at the Explora Museum where Animal Humane will have a table set up at the Animal Playhouse Performance. Yet another opportunity to drum up more gigs! As I have stated many times before, "doG! I love fursuiting!!"
