"Sabot's Summer Reading Program" has now morphed into something more year-round. I now always have a book at my desk at work, so if I need a mental break from what I'm doing or my boss isn't around to micromanage me, I can read a chapter or 2 of something to push my brain's reset button. So I mentioned the above book to Kitty and she told me that she had it somewhere in her sci-fi collection. When she handed it to me I said I had wanted to see how it compared to the movie. She was puzzled. They made a movie about it? Yeah, except it was called "Blade Runner." Ohhhhhh! The movie was so weird (at the time and still today) I wanted to see if something got lost in translation. No. The book gets pretty weird as well. While the movie was visually spectacular (especially for the time) with the trippy soundtrack by Vangelis, the book goes more into the psychology of man vs android. I said to myself that it would be interesting to see another movie version that more closely followed the book. Then my heart sank when I saw that they ARE going to make a sequel with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling that will be in theaters later this year. Let's see how that goes.
