It's that time of year again when a bear's thoughts carry him to the garden. Last weekend we hit up the local nursery and bought tomato and pepper seedlings. I spent Saturday and Sunday turning the soil and leveling everything out. It doesn't help when you have a dog who used the garden as a bed last year and dug himself a nice puppy bunker. Last night I finished up with the planting of 2 rows of green beans, 2 mounds of zucchini, and 2 mounds of cucumbers. I had hoped that I would be planting in a nice new big garden area which is part of the front yard remodel. Unfortunately the contractor is dragging his feet, and it probably won't be ready for another few weeks. Oh well. Another thing we checked out at the nursery was fruit trees. I really want to plant an awesome orchard! I'm shooting for a Fuji apple, bing and rainier cherry, apricot, peach, plum, fig, and pear. In the back of my mind it's all part of my "zombie apocalypse" scenario. You're a big step ahead when you can grow your own food.
