Being Thankful

Normally during Thanksgiving dinner we all say what we're thankful for. This year we didn't do that. I think we all just wanted to dig into the kosher turkey. You see my Mom gets free turkey from the town, but since it's too much for her, she just gives them to me when I come for a visit. So this year we enjoyed the free birds (SKYNYRD!) along with sides that Kitty and prepared; corn bread casserole, cranberry ambrosia, sweet potato and pecan casserole, and good ol' green bean casserole. It was all washed down with Polish beer that I had brought from Chicago earlier in the year. The festivities happened at Scritch's with just our small group of buds. During the evening there was a bit of a downer when Dex told us that his mom had been diagnosed with the "big C" and may not be long for this world. My Mom is still spry for her 92 years, but she just doesn't have the stamina to travel. As we discussed all of this, we reminisced about our holiday cruise to Panama a few years ago. Ah! That was the way to spend the holidays! Kitty got on her phone and looked up cruises for Thanksgiving 2019. She found a nice 9-night Caribbean getaway that just happened to part of a Black Friday sale. We all looked at each other and the wheels started turning.

On Friday we all got together for breakfast at our local Mexican place. It was then off to Fur Central where the beer started flowing. We sat in the nice warm sun under crystal blue skies. The cruise was once again brought up and soon we were all on our devices making plans. We all got to the "confirm" button, and with cries of "hellz yeah!" we all got our reservations. So Thanksgiving 2019 will be spent far away from the cold and Al and Dex won't have to make a 1600 mile drive to see us. So what am I thankful for? I'm thankful for such good friends with all of us having the means to plan a great trip on a whim. Many more beers were consumed that day as we all enjoyed each others' company. That's what Thanksgiving is all about, Charlie Brown.
