We had a heck of a wind storm yesterday. I just read that there was a peak gust of 104 MPH down near Las Cruces. That's just friggin' insane! I was watching the NMDOT website for road closures up north which would tell me that they were getting hammered with snow. I did see a road get closed near the TX border. It was a little state highway that crosses I-40. It said that it was closed due to a train derailment. That would be interesting, but what they were showing as closed didn't cross any railroad tracks. A little while later they corrected it as it was north of I-40, not south. That put it near Logan. I immediately wondered if a train got blown off of the high bridge over the Canadian River. I've been there a few times. It's a wonderful place to trainspot. Sure enough! The train got blown off the bridge! There was video this morning of a truck near Amarillo that literally got lifted up and pushed over by a wind gust. I was also watching the CDOT website to see how things were going in Colorado. The answer was not good at all! Pretty much every road out of Denver was closed. Every highway in the eastern part of the state was closed. Down by the NM border the roads were closed as well. A check of the cameras showed whiteout conditions. Woohoo! That's great news for us! In terms of winds for ABQ, it was bad but I've experienced worse. I took my walkies in the neighborhood where the houses broke up the big gusts. I did put a tarp over the apricot tree. Temps were 32 this morning, so hopefully the buds/flowers survived.
